CHYS 2F05 - Development in Indigenous Contexts


Basic concepts and contemporary issues in the development of the child and youth focusing on Indigenous contexts. Topics may include processes in cognitive and social-emotional patterns of change, education and development, diversity within development and alternative theories. Developmental theory and research provides the conceptual framework focusing on Indigenous contexts.

Course Format: Lectures, seminar, 72 contact hours.
Restrictions: Open to BEd-Primary/Junior (Aboriginal) majors.
Prerequisite(s): CHYS 1F95  (1M95)
Course Notes: Students may not concurrently register in CHYS 2P10  or PSYC 2P12 . This course will draw upon relevant work or volunteer experience. Students must have completed 60 hours of work or volunteer experience within education or community-based settings that serve children and youth prior to enrolling in the course. This course may be offered in multiple modes of delivery. The method of delivery will be listed on the academic timetable, in the applicable term.
Exclusions: Completion of this course will replace previous assigned grade and credit obtained in CHYS 2M01, CHYS 2P10  and PSYC 2P12 .
