The Department of Sport Management offers a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Sport Management (BSM). The requirement for graduation with a BSM (Honours) is a minimum 70 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent non-major average. The requirement for graduation with a BSM is a minimum 60 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent overall average.
The program is designed to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding sport industry and incorporates experiential opportunities for students.
Students will be prepared for sport management career opportunities that include marketing, public relations, promotions, communications, human resources and financial, facility and event management in a variety of public, commercial and non-profit organizations.
It is the responsibility of Sport Management students to adhere to the Department of Sport Management’s Ethical and Professional Code of Conduct which is in conjunction with Brock University’s Code of Student Conduct.
Re-admission and Transfer Eligibility
The application form for re-admission or for transfer into the BSM program (Declare or Change Majors) is available on the web at Forms and self-service - Office of the Registrar (brocku.ca) or at the Registrar’s Office. The Declare or Change Majors form to transfer into the BSM must be completed and submitted to the Office of the Registrar by June 30 to be considered for admission to the program for the beginning of the subsequent Fall/Winter Session. The BSM is a limited enrolment program. Admission is not guaranteed by attainment of the minimum requirements outlined below.
To be eligible for re-admission, or for transfer from another program, to the BSM program, a student must meet all of the following requirements:
One of 4U MATH, MATH 1P20 or STAT 1F92
Completion of SPMA 1P91 and SPMA 1P92 with a minimum 60 percent in each.
A minimum 60 percent average overall in all SPMA major courses taken to date which would be included in the calculation of the BSM major average.
Completion of two context credits.
A minimum 60 percent overall average.
Program Notes
- A minimum 60 percent in each of SPMA 1P91 , SPMA 1P92 and SPMA 1P94 , a minimum 60 percent major average, and a minimum 60 percent overall average are required to continue as a major in Sport Management.
- All students must take 3 context credits: one Humanities context credit, one Sciences context credit and one Social Sciences context credit. Two credits must be used to satisfy context requirements by the end of year 2 and the third context credit must be completed no later than the end of year 3.
- In addition to the 3 context credits, SPMA majors must take a minimum of two elective credits outside the Department of Sport Management (excluding cross-listed SPMA courses).
- In 20 credit degree programs a maximum of eight credits may be numbered 1(alpha)00 to 1(alpha)99; at least three credits must be numbered 2(alpha)90 or above; at least three credits must be numbered 3(alpha)90 or above; and the remaining credits must be numbered 2(alpha)00 or above.
In some circumstances, in order to meet university degree and program requirements, more than 20 credits may be taken.
