IASC 2P04 - Ludology Nature, psychology and characteristics of play. Theories related to fun, play and games including improvisation, competition, exploration, role-playing, sports and thrill-seeking. Examination of formal and informal games, goals, rules, decisions, interaction, rewards and penalties, and psychological triggers and responses. Analysis of gameplay, player experience, engagement, mechanics, design and usability.
Course Format: Lectures, seminar, 3 hours per week. Restrictions: Open to GAMD and GAMP majors with a minimum of 4.0 overall credits or permission of the Centre for Digital Humanities. Prerequisite(s): IASC 1P04 and IASC 1P05 or permission of the Centre Course Notes: This course may be offered in multiple modes of delivery. The method of delivery will be listed on the academic timetable, in the applicable term.
