BIOL 3P60 - Animal Behaviour Proximate and ultimate contributions to behaviour, covering key themes in ethology and behavioural ecology; topics include adaptive significance of learning; development of species-typical behaviour; hormonal contributions to behaviour; foraging and optimality; anti-predator behaviours; animal cognition; reproductive, parental care, and mating systems; habitat selection, navigation and orientation; communication and its function; cooperation and altruism. Labs involve both computer coding and working with live animals.
Course Format: Lectures, 3 hours per week; lab, 3 hours per week. Restrictions: Open to BIOL (single or combined), BIOL (Honours)/BEd (Intermediate/Senior), BSC Integrated Studies (Honours)BEd (Junior/Intermediate), BCHM, BMED, BTEC, NEUR, OEVI, PSYB majors and BIOL minors until date specified in Registration guide. Students must have a minimum of 8.0 overall credits. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 2P05 and BIOL 2Q04 Course Notes: Materials fee required. This course may be offered in multiple modes of delivery. The method of delivery will be listed on the academic timetable, in the applicable term.
