Program Description

The Master of Sport Management (MSM) is a full-time program of study designed to prepare graduate students from a range of sport and business-oriented undergraduate educational backgrounds to work in a variety of sport management-related professions, organizations, and services in managerial, service delivery, leadership, and facilitative roles. Individuals with backgrounds in sport management, business management, communications, and other related fields will be provided with a curriculum of required courses as well as a full-credit practicum to prepare them for work and leadership roles in sport management-related settings that are increasingly focused on and/or encourage enhanced business intelligence and data-based decision making. The MSM program will provide students with the knowledge, practical and professional skills for pursuing a wide scope of career possibilities in sport management.

Admission Requirements

Successful completion of a four year bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university in a sport and/or business related field (e.g., sport management, business management, communications), with a minimum average of 80% over the last two years of undergraduate study.

Applicants should have completed introductory undergraduate courses in: (sport) marketing, (sport) finance or accounting, and statistical analysis/quantitative methods/research methods. Applicants who have not undertaken these introductory courses may also be considered for admission in exceptional circumstances, though additional coursework may be required as determined by the MSM Graduate Program Committee and/or MSM Graduate Program Director. The MSM Graduate Program Committee will review all applications and recommend admission to a limited number of suitable candidates. In reviewing all applications, the MSM Program Committee may invite applicants for an interview to determine suitability and obtain additional information. Related, the MSM Program Committee will seek to admit a diverse student population (e.g., prior university and program, skillset) as an important consideration of trans-disciplinarity and to enhance the vitality of the program, wherever possible and appropriate. Admission to part-time study in the MSM program is not normally available.

For students who are required to provide proof of English Language Proficiency, a full listing of accepted English Language Proficiency tests is available on the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs English Language Proficiency webpage.
