All Dramatic Arts degree offerings integrate theory and practice to provide students with a broad educational base combining research, practice, and creative development. Pedagogical practices and performance, design, and technical skills are theorized and integrated with critical thinking, theatre history, dramaturgy and dramatic literature.
The Department of Dramatic Arts offers a BA Honours in Dramatic Arts. For honours students, Concentrations are available in Performance, Design and Production, and Theatre Creation. The Department also offers a four-year (20 credit) BA with Major Dramatic Arts degree and a three-year BA Pass degree. A Minor in Dramatic Arts is offered for non-DART majors.
The Department of Dramatics Arts offers a six-year Concurrent BA in Dramatic Arts (Honours)/BEd Intermediate/Senior program. Additionally, students in the Concurrent BA Educational Studies (Honours)/BEd Junior/Intermediate, the Concurrent BA Integrated Studies (Honours)/BEd Junior/Intermediate, and the Concurrent BA Interactive Art & Science (Honours)/BEd Junior/Intermediate program can also declare a teachable subject in Dramatic Arts. Students in other Concurrent BEd Intermediate/Senior programs can also declare Dramatic Arts as a second teachable subject.
Each year the department produces two Mainstage departmental productions, a student festival of one-act plays, and a collaboratively developed student production, in addition to other public performance outcomes, giving students numerous opportunities to engage in performance, production, design, and creative roles.
